Practical overview
When it fits
Use it after obtaining a JSONL export of Solana slot records when you need a repeatable offline analysis of continuity, forks or leader skips.
Who it is for
- Developers reviewing captured Solana slot data.
- Teams checking replay exports for missing records, duplicate slots or orphaned branches.
- Operators comparing observed leader skips across captured slot windows.
Documented uses
- Summarize continuity and skipped slots in a captured window.
- Find duplicate slots, noncanonical blocks, orphaned segments and impossible parent links.
- Attribute scheduled and skipped slots to leaders.
- Produce text or JSON reports for review or downstream use.
Requirements & limits
The public repository is open source under the MIT license. The documented primary workflow runs from a cloned repository; an installed console script is also described.
- Input is captured JSONL slot data; SlotDrift is not the record-collection step.
- The Python module uses the standard library, while a separate Rust engine is also provided.
- Text and JSON report formats are documented; ordinary skipped slots are visible but are not counted as findings.
- A missing record in the export can affect interpretation of apparent chain structure.
- Repository metadata lists Python as the primary language, while the README describes an independent Rust engine and fixture parity checks.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Analyze a JSONL slot-record sample with the Python CLI
Run the documented Python module against a JSONL file and produce a continuity and fork report.
Before you start
- A cloned SlotDrift repository.
- Python and a JSONL file of slot records; the repository includes sample files.
- The repository source directory available as PYTHONPATH.
Steps
Set PYTHONPATH to src from the repository root.
Run the command below, or substitute another JSONL input path.
python -m slotdrift analyze samples/cluster-window.jsonl
Expected outcome
A text report summarizing the input window, continuity, findings, forks, leader skips and parse errors.
Guide limitations
- The report describes the records provided; incomplete captures can make apparent gaps or parent anomalies difficult to interpret.
- This recipe covers the documented Python path, not data collection or deployment.
