Slotdrift — richhardvano

Slotdrift is an offline command-line tool for analyzing JSONL exports of Solana slot records. It reports missing and duplicate slots, competing blocks, orphaned branches, impossible parent links, skipped slots and skip rates by leader, with text or JSON reports. Its Python core uses the standard library, and the repository also provides an independent Rust engine.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it after obtaining a JSONL export of Solana slot records, when you need a repeatable offline report of continuity, fork and leader-skip patterns.

Who it is for

  • Solana developers reviewing captured slot data.
  • Teams adding continuity checks to a Solana data-capture workflow.
  • Engineers investigating forks, skipped leaders or parent-link anomalies in recorded slot windows.

Documented uses

  • Check a captured slot window for missing or duplicate slots.
  • Identify competing blocks and orphaned branches for follow-up review.
  • Inspect parent links for structural anomalies.
  • Summarize skipped slots by leader.
  • Report malformed JSONL records with line numbers.

Requirements & limits

The project is available as a public GitHub repository under the MIT license. The Python core can be run from the cloned repository; the README also documents installing a console script with pip.

  • Input must be a JSONL export of slot records; Slotdrift does not provide the capture workflow.
  • An export omission can make an apparent parent anomaly reflect missing data rather than chain structure.
  • Explicit skipped slots are recorded but are not automatically counted as findings.
  • The Python core has no dependencies beyond the standard library; a separate Rust engine is also documented.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Analyze a sample Solana slot window

Run the Python module against a repository JSONL sample and view its continuity report.

Before you start

  • Clone the Slotdrift repository.
  • Python environment with the Python standard library.
  • A JSONL input file; the repository provides sample files.

Steps

  1. Set PYTHONPATH to the repository's src directory.

  2. Run the command below.

    Documented command
    python -m slotdrift analyze samples/cluster-window.jsonl
  3. Review the text report for missing and duplicate slots, parent anomalies, forks, leader skips and parse errors.

Expected outcome

A line-oriented report describing the supplied slot window and its findings.

Guide limitations

  • The tool analyzes supplied records; it does not capture Solana slot data.
  • A missing record in an export can affect interpretation of apparent parent-link anomalies.
