Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a coding agent needs documented NVIDIA-focused guidance or when you want to discover and install skills for a particular NVIDIA workflow.
Who it is for
- Developers using Claude Code, Codex or other supported coding agents.
- Teams building NVIDIA-focused workflows for Physical AI, robotics, simulation, CUDA or RAG.
Documented uses
- Add NVIDIA-oriented skills to a coding-agent setup.
- Support robotics and simulation development tasks.
- Provide CUDA development assistance through agent guidance.
- Add NVIDIA-focused RAG workflow capabilities.
- Browse and update installed NVIDIA skills.
Requirements & limits
The repository is publicly visible and licensed under Apache-2.0. Installation uses the `skills` CLI through `npx`; the README requires version 1.5.16 or newer for the documented flow.
- Whether the required workflow is represented in the catalog.
- Which coding agent should receive the skill.
- Whether the local skills CLI meets the documented version requirement.
- Whether the skill should be installed interactively, by name, or for multiple agents.
- Whether installed skills need updating as the catalog changes.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install one NVIDIA skill for a coding agent
Install a named NVIDIA skill and target it to one or more supported coding agents.
Before you start
- A current skills CLI, version 1.5.16 or newer.
- The name of a skill from the NVIDIA skill catalog.
- A supported target agent, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Kiro or Snowflake CoCo.
Steps
Run the command below, replacing the example with the desired skill name.
npx skills add nvidia/skills --skill cuopt-numerical-optimization-api --yesAdd
--agent claude-codeor another supported agent target when installation should be specific to an agent.Repeat the
--agentoption when installing the same skill into multiple agents. In Claude Code, run
/reload-skillsto load a newly installed skill in the current session.
Expected outcome
The selected NVIDIA skill is installed for the chosen coding agent and can guide the agent when it encounters a relevant task.
Guide limitations
- The README states that older CLI versions may install skills without making them appear in Claude Code.
- The example skill name must be replaced with a skill available in the catalog.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skills | Add NVIDIA-oriented skills to a coding-agent setup. | CLI, Cloud, Self-hosted, Server | The repository is publicly visible and licensed under Apache-2.0. Installation uses the `skills` CLI through `npx`; the README requires version 1.5.16 or newer for the documented flow. |
| Spectra | Clarify requirements and compare approaches before proposing a change. | CLI, Desktop | The README lists a macOS and Windows desktop app, and a Homebrew installation for macOS. The CLI is published through npm and requires Node.js 22.14 or newer. |
| Skills — michaelshimeles | Install reusable task-specific skills into a coding-agent setup. | CLI | The repository README provides an npx installation command for most coding agents and describes automatic or explicit skill invocation in Claude Code. |
