Practical overview

When it fits

Use the repository when working directly with SKALE Network’s Ethereum contract layer, such as reviewing its operational logic, developing related tools or following the documented local setup and deployment workflow.

Who it is for

  • Developers examining or contributing to SKALE Network’s smart-contract infrastructure.
  • Teams building tools that interact with validator, chain-provisioning, delegation, bounty or service-agreement processes.

Documented uses

  • Coordinate validator registration, authorization, stake verification and node lifecycle.
  • Provision and manage SKALE Chains through network contracts.
  • Represent delegation, validator fees, slashing and reward distribution.
  • Handle distributed key generation and BLS public-key storage for SKALE consensus.

Requirements & limits

The public GitHub repository specifies the AGPL-3.0 license. Local setup requires Node.js v18–v22 and Yarn.

  • The repository is infrastructure code, not a ready-made administration dashboard.
  • The develop branch may be ahead of production; the repository describes stable as the latest stable version.
  • The README documents Ethereum Mainnet deployments and a separate custom-network deployment workflow.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the SKALE Manager repository

Clone the repository with its submodules and install its dependencies.

Before you start

  • Node.js v18–v22; the README recommends v22.
  • Yarn.

Steps

  1. Clone the repository using the command below.

    Documented command
    git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/skalenetwork/skale-manager.git
  2. Change into the skale-manager directory.

  3. Run yarn install.

Expected outcome

The repository and its dependencies are set up locally.

Guide limitations

  • The README notes that compatibility with newer Node.js versions may be possible but is untested by CI.

Deploy SKALE Manager to a custom network

Use the documented Hardhat deployment script with a custom network configuration.

Before you start

  • The repository cloned with submodules and dependencies installed.
  • An endpoint and a private key funded to pay gas.
  • A .env file; GASPRICE and ETHERSCAN are listed as optional settings.

Steps

  1. Create a .env file containing ENDPOINT and PRIVATE_KEY.

  2. Optionally add GASPRICE and ETHERSCAN as described in the README.

  3. Run yarn hardhat run migrations/deploy.ts --network custom.

Expected outcome

The documented deployment script is invoked for the configured custom network.

Guide limitations

  • The README does not specify custom-network configuration beyond the listed environment variables.
  • This recipe reflects the repository instructions and is not a verified deployment.
