Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when you need a low-level Solana shred feed and can manage stream provisioning, UDP networking, reconstruction, parsing, and production monitoring. Choose a structured feed such as Geyser Stream when a simpler gRPC integration is preferable.

Who it is for

  • Solana developers building a low-level block-feed listener
  • Teams monitoring transaction signatures related to a configured account
  • Engineers studying Reed–Solomon shred recovery and entry reconstruction

Documented uses

  • Receive raw Solana shreds over UDP and group them by slot and FEC set.
  • Recover missing data shreds when enough shreds are available, then reconstruct and decode entries.
  • Find transactions whose static account keys include one configured account and log the first signature.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The README requires an active BlockRazor Solana Shred Stream subscription. The receiver’s public IP and UDP port are registered in the BlockRazor Portal, which configures authorization; the packet stream does not use an API key.

  • The project uses Rust 2024 Edition and requires Rust 1.85 or later, Cargo, Git, and Linux build dependencies.
  • The receiver binds to 0.0.0.0: and needs inbound UDP access, including matching firewall and cloud-network rules.
  • The account filter checks static account keys only and logs the first signature of each matching transaction.
  • A bounded reconstruction queue can drop packet batches when full; the README recommends monitoring packet loss, queue pressure, CPU use, recovery failures, and incomplete FEC sets.
  • The example does not persist decoded data or expose a downstream API.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the Rust Shred Stream receiver

Prepare a Linux server and configure the client to receive BlockRazor Solana Shred Stream packets for one account.

Before you start

  • Rust 1.85 or later, Cargo, Git, and Linux build tools required by the Solana/Jito dependencies.
  • A server with a publicly reachable UDP port and an active BlockRazor Solana Shred Stream subscription.
  • A valid Solana public key for the account filter.

Steps

  1. Install the required Rust toolchain and Linux build dependencies; Ubuntu/Debian and RHEL/CentOS package commands are provided in the project README.

  2. Register or sign in to BlockRazor, obtain Solana Shred Stream access, register the server's public IP and UDP port in the portal, and select a nearby relay region.

  3. Allow inbound UDP traffic for that port in the host firewall and any cloud security group or network ACL. If the server is behind NAT, configure port forwarding.

  4. Edit the port and subscribe_account constants near the top of src/main.rs; use the registered UDP port and a valid Base58 Solana public key.

Expected outcome

The server and client configuration are prepared for the receiver to listen on `0.0.0.0:` and filter decoded transactions by the configured account's static account keys.

Guide limitations

  • This is setup guidance only; the README also documents build and run commands, but this recipe does not cover execution.
  • The filter does not resolve accounts referenced only through Address Lookup Tables and logs only the first signature of matching transactions.
  • The example is not a complete production indexing pipeline. Queue pressure can drop packet batches, so production use should monitor packet loss, queue pressure, CPU usage, recovery failures, and incomplete FEC sets.
