Shoesafari

Shoesafari is an online footwear store where customers can browse products, place orders and pay with USDC on Stellar through a Freighter wallet. Its web storefront connects to a Soroban checkout contract that records orders and escrows payment for release on merchant dispatch or an on-chain refund.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Shoesafari to shop for footwear when Stellar wallet checkout is relevant, or consult its repository when studying a storefront integrated with Soroban escrow.

Who it is for

  • Shoppers who want to order footwear using Stellar USDC and a Freighter wallet.
  • Developers examining or adapting a web storefront with Stellar and Soroban payment integration.

Documented uses

  • Browse footwear and place an order through an online storefront.
  • Pay for an order from a Freighter wallet using USDC on Stellar.
  • Inspect an escrow-based checkout implementation that records orders and supports payment release or refund.

Requirements & limits

The repository documents a live storefront and a separate testnet development flow. Its Stellar payment stage requires a deployed checkout contract ID in local configuration.

  • Checkout uses Freighter and a Stellar transaction rather than a conventional card-only flow.
  • The documented contract holds payment in escrow until dispatch or refund.
  • The repository identifies the storefront as Next.js 14 and the checkout contract as Rust with Soroban SDK 27.
  • The project is MIT-licensed and its storefront and Stellar integration are described as open source.
  • Testnet instructions are for development and are separate from live purchases.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Shoesafari locally

Configure the storefront for local development and open its home page.

Before you start

  • The Shoesafari repository
  • Node.js and npm
  • Values for the existing Firebase/Mongo configuration used by the app

Steps

  1. Clone the repository and change into its directory.

  2. Install dependencies with the command below.

    Documented command
    npm install
  3. Copy .env.local.example to .env.local and fill in the required values. For the documented Stellar-only testnet configuration, set NEXT_PUBLIC_STELLAR_NETWORK=testnet and provide a checkout contract ID when available.

  4. Run the command below and open http://localhost:3000.

    Documented command
    npm run dev

Expected outcome

The local storefront home page is available; the documented checkout path is reached by adding an item to the cart and visiting checkout.

Guide limitations

  • Without a deployed checkout contract ID, the Stellar payment stage remains disabled.
  • The README's testnet configuration is for development; testnet is separate from live purchases.
