Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a ComfyUI workflow needs more control over how generated images are named, formatted, grouped, or accompanied by generation records.
Who it is for
- ComfyUI users who want generated images grouped into custom folders and subfolders.
- Workflow builders who want output filenames to include sampler, model, prompt, or other node-widget values.
- Users who want JSON records of generation settings saved alongside image outputs.
Documented uses
- Save generated images in a selected format, including PNG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG, JXL, TIFF, GIF, BMP, or JPEG 2000.
- Build filename and folder patterns from prefixes, workflow values, delimiters, counters, and date or time formats.
- Save job details such as prompts, sampler settings, and loaded models to folder-level or per-image JSON files.
- Store metadata in image files where the chosen format and library support it.
Requirements & limits
The project is a self-hosted ComfyUI extension distributed through a public GitHub repository under the GPL-3.0 license.
- Filename and folder patterns can reference node widget values using the documented node-ID and widget-name notation.
- The extension supports many output formats, but ComfyUI prompt loading is documented for PNG and WebP only.
- The README flags limitations involving lossless WebP loading, JPEG 2000 EXIF data, large WebP and JXL images, and oversized JPEG metadata.
- The documented install uses ComfyUI's custom_nodes directory and lists Python image-processing dependencies.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the custom node in ComfyUI
Place the repository in ComfyUI's custom_nodes directory and install the listed Python image dependencies.
Before you start
- An existing ComfyUI installation with access to its custom_nodes directory.
- Python and the listed packages: NumPy, Pillow, pillow-avif-plugin, and pillow-jxl-plugin.
Steps
Open a terminal inside the custom_nodes folder in the ComfyUI installation.
Clone the repository with the command below.
git clone https://github.com/audioscavenger/save-image-extended-comfyuiInstall the listed packages with the command below.
pip install numpy pillow pillow-avif-plugin pillow-jxl-plugin
Expected outcome
The repository is placed in ComfyUI's custom_nodes directory and the README-listed Python packages are installed.
Guide limitations
- The README lists Python 3.10.6, PyTorch 2.5.1+cu124, and a ComfyUI 0.3.12 build as a tested configuration, not a compatibility guarantee.
- Installation steps do not document running a workflow or validating the node.
