Practical overview
When it fits
Use Samsar when a workflow needs prompt- or image-led video generation alongside media editing and post-production, or when developers need a documented client/API path for those tasks.
Who it is for
- Creators producing prompt-led videos or videos from product-image lists.
- Teams building product-video workflows from structured content and images.
- Developers integrating video, image, audio, or inference workflows through the documented client and API.
- Operators configuring a self-hosted media-generation runtime with supported providers.
Documented uses
- Create a video from a text prompt.
- Turn a list of product images into an ad video with optional narration elements and a call to action.
- Edit generated imagery, add audio, and refine rendered scenes in a Studio workflow.
- Submit video-generation jobs through Samsar.js and track them by request ID.
- Configure provider routing and enabled services for a standalone deployment.
Requirements & limits
The project documents a hosted browser Studio and hosted API client. Hosted API requests use Samsar credits. A separate Docker-based standalone deployment is documented; its setup uses provider credentials and selected services.
- The hosted API path requires a Samsar API key; keep it in a server environment.
- The documented standalone setup requires Git and Docker-based setup; provider credentials and enabled models depend on the chosen configuration.
- Text-to-video Studio projects are documented for durations up to three minutes.
- Image-list-to-video supports optional narrator avatar, outro, and call to action.
- The repository identifies the application as JavaScript and MIT-licensed.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Launch the standalone setup wizard
Start the local setup wizard and use it to configure and start a standalone Samsar deployment.
Before you start
- Git
- Linux, macOS, or WSL, or Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt
- Docker is used by the setup launcher; supported installation or startup behavior depends on platform
Steps
From the repository root, launch
./setup.shon Linux, macOS, or WSL; on Windows use\.\setup.ps1in PowerShell orsetup.cmdin Command Prompt.Open the one-time authenticated URL at
http://localhost:8089when the launcher provides it.Complete the browser flow to write deployment configuration, render runtime environment and model availability, build and start selected Docker Compose profiles, verify the processor API and Studio client, and prepare local login.
Open the local Studio at
http://localhost:3000or the Processor API athttp://localhost:3002.
Expected outcome
The setup wizard configures and starts the selected local services, with Studio and Processor API URLs provided for access.
Guide limitations
- Node.js, npm, and Yarn are not host prerequisites for this standalone setup path.
- The wizard binds to loopback by default; for remote hosts, use
scripts/setup-wizard-remote.shso access travels through an SSH tunnel. - The launcher may install or start Docker only where supported; Docker requirements and bootstrap behavior vary by platform.
