Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Rolod0X while browsing web3 sites or reviewing transactions when you need to recognize addresses by saved labels rather than raw strings.

Who it is for

  • People who regularly inspect blockchain addresses on websites or explorers.
  • Users who want a local address book for EVM-based chains or Solana.

Documented uses

  • Save a name for a blockchain address from a web page.
  • Recognize saved addresses when they appear on other websites.
  • Look up, copy, search, or open an address in a block explorer.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The project provides browser-extension download links for Chrome and Firefox. Its README says it should also work with Chromium-family browsers such as Brave. The project describes the extension as free and open source.

  • The address book is described as local-only; storage and privacy implementation details are not specified in the overview.
  • The README identifies EVM-based blockchains and Solana as supported ecosystems.
  • The project also identifies a command-line version for translating addresses shown in terminal output.
  • The repository lists an MIT license and a TypeScript, React, and Vite stack.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Add and display labeled onchain addresses in rolod0x

Save address labels and have rolod0x replace matching addresses with those labels on an enabled website.

Before you start

  • rolod0x installed in Chrome or Firefox (the instructions may also apply to Chromium and Brave).
  • The website must have rolod0x enabled unless it is one of the built-in sites.

Steps

  1. Open the extension options page. After installation it opens automatically; to reopen it, use the extension icon or the browser’s extension controls.

  2. Add or edit addresses in the address book as directed by the options-page help text, then click Save.

  3. Enable rolod0x for the website using the extension icon’s context menu, if it is not already enabled and is not a built-in site.

  4. Visit a page showing the saved addresses. If labels do not appear, reload the page.

Expected outcome

Recognized addresses on the page are replaced with the labels saved in the extension options.

Guide limitations

  • Right-clicking an address to add a label currently works only on websites where rolod0x is enabled.
  • The user manual says instructions cover Chrome and Firefox and should apply to Chromium and Brave, though details may differ.
  • Duplicate labels for the same address are joined with a slash when replacing labels with addresses.

Install a GitHub ZIP build in Chrome or Firefox

Install a downloaded rolod0x ZIP build as a browser extension.

Before you start

  • A downloaded rolod0x ZIP build from a listed GitHub release, recent main-branch build, or ZIP workflow artifact.
  • A Chrome-family browser or Firefox.

Steps

  1. Unpack the ZIP into a fresh folder and note its location. For Firefox, ensure the files are extracted into a new subdirectory because the ZIP files are not all contained in one.

  2. For Chrome or a similar Chrome-family browser, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the unpacked folder.

  3. For Firefox, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, choose Load Temporary Add-on..., and select manifest.json from the unpacked folder.

Expected outcome

The unpacked extension is loaded in Chrome-family browsers; in Firefox it is loaded as a temporary add-on.

Guide limitations

  • Firefox support has not been heavily tested, according to the installation guide.
  • A Firefox temporary add-on disappears when the browser closes and must be added again on the next launch.
  • The guide says Chrome-family installation should also work for Chromium and Brave.
