Practical overview
When it fits
Use the library when building Rust-based desktop or mobile wallet integration, or the CLI when you need the documented local issuer-import workflow for Bitcoin and Lightning.
Who it is for
- Wallet developers adding RGB contract support to desktop or mobile applications.
- Rust developers integrating RGB through the client-facing library.
- Developers using a local CLI to initialize RGB data and import contract issuers.
Documented uses
- Integrate RGB contract functionality into a wallet or desktop application.
- Initialize local RGB data and import issuer files through the CLI.
- List imported contract issuers from the command line.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies an Apache-2.0 license. CLI installation is documented through Cargo.
- The library and CLI serve different development needs: application integration versus local command-line operations.
- The CLI requires an Electrum server.
- The documented setup requires Cargo and OS-specific developer components; the minimum Rust compiler version is listed in Cargo.toml.
- The repository states that it supports Bitcoin and Bitcoin protocols, not other blockchains.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Initialize RGB data and import contract issuers
Set up the CLI data directory, import issuer files, and check that the issuers are listed.
Before you start
- Install Cargo and the repository’s OS-specific developer components.
- Install the RGB command-line utility with
cargo install rgb-wallet. - Have contract issuer files available locally; the README names issuer repositories and rgbex.io as possible sources.
Steps
Run
rgb initto initialize the data directory.Run
rgb import, replacing `with the issuer-file path; the README also describes using a wildcard such as*.issuers`.Run
rgb contracts --issuersand check that the imported issuers are present.
Expected outcome
The CLI lists the imported issuers.
Guide limitations
- The CLI requires an Electrum server.
- The repository describes support for Bitcoin and Bitcoin protocols, not other blockchains.
