Practical overview

When it fits

Use Revery when you want to explore a topic through related material in a Monocle personal index, especially while reading a web page or starting from a broad phrase.

Who it is for

  • People who want to rediscover personal notes and saved material while reading about a topic.
  • Readers and writers exploring a subject who want related items from their own indexed collections.

Documented uses

  • Find personal documents related to the text or topic of a web page.
  • Search an index from a URL or key phrase to surface related ideas and saved material.
  • Use a highlighted passage as the browser extension’s search input.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • Revery searches a Monocle personal index, so its usefulness depends on having indexed personal content.
  • It is described by its author as a proof-of-concept prototype rather than a finished product.
  • The browser extension and web search interface offer different starting points: page text or a selection, versus a URL or phrase.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Find related personal documents from a web page

Use Revery’s browser extension to search for indexed personal documents related to the page you are reading.

Before you start

  • The Revery browser extension and API are available.
  • A Monocle search index containing personal documents is available.

Steps

  1. Open a webpage of interest in your browser.

  2. Optionally highlight a portion of the page to search using that selection.

  3. Press Ctrl-Shift-L to have the extension send the page text or highlighted selection to the Revery API.

  4. Review the returned topically related documents.

Expected outcome

Revery surfaces indexed notes, bookmarks, journal entries, or other personal documents that are semantically related to the page text.

Guide limitations

  • Revery is described as a proof-of-concept prototype rather than a finished product.
  • Results depend on content in the Monocle search index; the extension searches that index rather than the open web.
