Practical overview
When it fits
Use it for repeatable Claude Code development workflows where task intake, progress detection, loop termination and operational controls are important.
Who it is for
- Developers using Claude Code for repository work
- Teams organizing coding tasks through PRDs, beads or GitHub Issues
- Users who need loop controls, session continuity or monitoring around Claude Code workflows
Documented uses
- Process queued software-development tasks through repeated Claude Code cycles
- Stop work using completion indicators and an explicit exit signal
- Import and filter GitHub Issues or use other documented task sources
- Monitor, measure and recover iterative development activity
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identified as MIT-licensed. The project profile identifies CLI use on Linux, macOS and Windows; the evidence does not provide pricing or account requirements.
- It depends on the Claude Code CLI ecosystem rather than functioning as a standalone coding model.
- The dual-condition exit gate requires both completion indicators and an explicit EXIT_SIGNAL.
- Rate limiting, circuit breakers and API-limit handling address runaway or constrained loops.
- Dry-run mode can simulate loops without API calls, while backup branches and rollback support provide repository recovery options.
- Task intake can use PRDs, beads or GitHub Issues, with documented filters and selection modes.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Enable Ralph in an existing project
Configure Ralph for a project through its documented interactive enablement workflow.
Before you start
- A project for use with Claude Code.
- The Ralph repository and its Shell-based tooling.
- A supported task source such as beads, GitHub Issues or a PRD document, if tasks are to be imported.
Steps
Start the documented
ralph-enablewizard.Let the wizard detect the project environment.
Select a task source and configure the project settings.
Allow the wizard to generate the project files and perform its verification phase.
Expected outcome
The project is configured through Ralph’s five-phase enablement workflow, including environment detection, task-source selection, configuration, file generation and verification.
Guide limitations
- The evidence documents setup stages but does not provide exact installation commands or confirm a successful run of the configured loop.
