Practical overview
When it fits
Use Phoneclaw when an agent must live on iOS and combine local model execution with phone-native actions. Choose the Mac Gateway path when inference is explicitly intended to run on a paired Mac.
Who it is for
- iOS developers building local or edge AI agents
- Teams creating assistants that use native phone capabilities
- Developers needing an optional Mac-backed inference route
Documented uses
- Run supported AI models on an iPhone
- Connect agent responses to native mobile Skills
- Create assistants for calendar, reminders, contacts, clipboard, health, image and voice workflows
- Use a paired Mac for selected remote inference tasks
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and provides a TestFlight link. The documented target is iOS 17 or later. No account or pricing requirements are specified in the supplied material.
- Swift and iOS 17+ are required for the documented target.
- LiteRT is used for the named on-device Gemma and MiniCPM-V model paths.
- The Mac Gateway requires a paired Mac on the same LAN and explicit model selection.
- Native Skills are documented, but the extension interface is not described.
- Mac-side Ollama keeps inference on the Mac; other upstream providers apply their own data-handling behavior.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Pair Phoneclaw with the Mac Gateway
Set up the documented Mac-based remote inference path for an iPhone agent.
Before you start
- An iPhone running Phoneclaw
- A Mac on the same LAN
- The PhoneClawGateway macOS application
- Local Network permission on the Mac
Steps
Download and unzip PhoneClawGateway-macOS-v0.1.1.zip.
Open PhoneClawGateway.app and allow Local Network permission.
On the iPhone, open Mac Remote and discover the Mac on the same LAN.
Approve pairing on the Mac, choose a Mac-side model and use it from the chat screen.
Expected outcome
The iPhone can use the explicitly paired Mac as a remote inference source.
Guide limitations
- The supplied instructions do not document broader configuration, troubleshooting or compatibility guarantees.
- With CLI or other upstream providers, data handling follows that provider's behavior.
