Practical overview
When it fits
Use PADE when a project calls for Python-based distributed agents and the team wants its agent sessions and, optionally, ACL traffic recorded in CSV files.
Who it is for
- Python developers building applications composed of interacting agents.
- Researchers prototyping multi-agent simulations, including electric-power-system studies.
Documented uses
- Develop and run a distributed multi-agent application.
- Prototype agent-based simulation or co-simulation work.
- Review session, agent and event records, and inspect ACL message logs when the Sniffer is active.
Requirements & limits
The repository identifies PADE as free software under the MIT license. It documents installation from PyPI and from the Git repository.
- The project is maintained for Python 3.12 and later.
- Twisted is the framework's core distributed-application dependency.
- The PyPI distribution is named
pade-agents, while the import package and CLI command are namedpade. - ACL messages are logged when the Sniffer is active; a terminal-only minimal example does not generate message-log entries.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install PADE from PyPI
Install the PADE package for Python agent development.
Before you start
- Python 3.12 or later.
Steps
Run the command below.
pip install pade-agentsUse the
padepackage name for imports and thepadecommand for the CLI.
Expected outcome
The PADE distribution is installed from PyPI and is available as the `pade` package and CLI command.
Guide limitations
- This recipe covers installation only; it does not document running an agent using the PyPI installation.
Install PADE from the GitHub repository
Set up the repository version of PADE and check its version.
Before you start
- Python 3.12 or later.
- Git and uv are needed for the listed repository workflow.
Steps
Run the command below.
git clone https://github.com/grei-ufc/pade.gitChange into the repository directory with
cd pade.Run the command below.
uv syncRun the command below.
uv run pade version
Expected outcome
The repository dependencies are synchronized and the PADE version command is invoked.
Guide limitations
- The README recommends consulting
docs/user/instalacao.rstfor the current installation workflow. - The listed steps do not demonstrate executing an agent application.
