Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Nimbalyst when coding-agent work needs to be coordinated with project tasks, files and Git changes, particularly when several sessions run in parallel and their edits need visual review.

Who it is for

  • Developers coordinating multiple coding-agent sessions.
  • Teams or individuals who want to review agent edits and track related tasks, files and Git changes in a visual workspace.
  • Developers who want to edit Markdown, diagrams, mockups, data files or code alongside agent work.

Documented uses

  • Run and organize parallel coding-agent sessions in separate Git worktrees.
  • Search, resume and track sessions, including the files they touched.
  • Review proposed edits as rendered diffs and accept or reject changes.
  • Manage plans, bugs, features and todos with trackers that agents can also read and update.
  • Edit project documents, diagrams, mockups, data and code in built-in visual editors.

Requirements & limits

The repository describes Nimbalyst as a free, MIT-licensed desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux, with an iOS companion. Its download section specifies macOS 12 or later for Apple Silicon and Intel, Windows 10 or later, and Debian/Ubuntu or derivative packages, with an AppImage for other Linux distributions. OpenCode and GitHub Copilot are identified as alpha in the feature list.

  • Nimbalyst is an application workspace, not a coding-agent model; its documented purpose is to coordinate and edit work from coding agents.
  • Its built-in editors cover Markdown, mockups, Mermaid, Excalidraw, CSV, data models and code in Monaco.
  • The project describes an EditorHost contract for custom editors and an MCP client for connecting MCP servers.
  • The repository identifies Codex, Claude Code and OpenCode as supported environments; the feature list labels OpenCode and GitHub Copilot alpha and also mentions a Gemini provider.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
