Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when an MCP-compatible client needs a composable interface to Massive.com financial data, including workflows that combine API retrieval with SQL queries or built-in calculations.
Who it is for
- Developers connecting an MCP-compatible LLM client to Massive.com market data.
- Teams prototyping assistants that retrieve and analyze stock, options or cryptocurrency data.
Documented uses
- Discover relevant Massive.com API endpoints and built-in financial functions.
- Retrieve market data through API calls and store results in temporary SQLite tables.
- Query stored results with SQL and apply supported return, moving-average or options calculations.
Requirements & limits
The repository documents a hosted server at mcp.massive.com and a locally installed option. Local setup requires a Massive.com API key. The project is open source under the MIT license.
- The repository labels the project experimental and warns that breaking changes may occur.
- The three-tool design combines endpoint search, API calls and SQL queries instead of providing one tool per endpoint.
- Local installation requires Python 3.12+, Astral UV 0.4.0+ and a Massive.com API key.
- STDIO is the default transport; SSE and streamable HTTP are also documented.
- The in-memory SQLite store is for results handled during the server session, rather than a documented persistent database.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and register MCP Massive with Claude Code
Install the server and add it as an MCP server in Claude Code.
Before you start
- Python 3.12 or later
- Astral UV 0.4.0 or later
- A Massive.com API key
- Claude Code installed and authenticated
Steps
Install the server with the command below.
uv tool install "mcp_massive @ git+https://github.com/massive-com/mcp_massive@v0.10.0"Register it with
claude mcp add massive -e MASSIVE_API_KEY=your_api_key_here -- mcp_massive, supplying your API key.Start Claude Code with
claudeand use its MCP connection.
Expected outcome
Claude Code is configured to access Massive.com market-data tools through MCP Massive.
Guide limitations
- The project is experimental and may have breaking changes.
- The server requires a Massive.com API key. The documented instructions do not establish what data access that key provides.
