Practical overview
When it fits
Use Loomic when a visual project benefits from generating and revising assets through chat while keeping them arranged together on an open canvas, rather than working in a timeline-first or template-based workflow.
Who it is for
- Visual creators developing concepts, character designs, storyboards, and scenes through iterative image and video generation.
- Developers who want to self-host or adapt an open-source conversational canvas workflow.
Documented uses
- Generate images or videos from conversational requests.
- Iterate on canvas assets with contextual natural-language edits.
- Arrange generated visuals into a canvas-based creative project and export or share the result.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the MIT license. The documented self-hosting setup requires a Supabase project and at least one Google or OpenAI API key; additional generation providers are listed as optional configuration.
- The canvas is built on Excalidraw and is designed for free arrangement, zooming, and layering rather than a timeline workflow.
- The agent runtime uses LangGraph; image and video generation are handled by asynchronous workers.
- Model access depends on configuring provider credentials; the repository lists Google, OpenAI, Replicate, and other provider integrations.
- The documented stack includes Next.js, React, Fastify, TypeScript, Supabase PostgreSQL, and PGMQ.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare a local Loomic setup
Install the repository and configure its documented Supabase and AI-provider prerequisites.
Before you start
- Node.js 20 or later
- pnpm 10 or later
- Supabase CLI
- A Supabase project
- At least one Google or OpenAI API key
Steps
Clone the Loomic repository and install its dependencies with pnpm.
Link the Supabase project and apply the repository migrations with the Supabase CLI.
Copy .env.example to .env.local and add the required Supabase credentials and identifiers.
Configure an AI provider, such as Google Gemini or OpenAI, and add the corresponding API key.
Expected outcome
The repository and its documented Supabase and AI-provider configuration are prepared for the next setup stage.
Guide limitations
- These instructions cover installation and configuration only; they do not document a complete launch or generation workflow.
- The documented direct Supabase database connection requires IPv6; the README points users without IPv6 to the Supabase session-pooler URI.
