Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Noobi.ai when you want a staged, review-gated workflow for producing a playable Web or Godot game from a prompt, with the resulting project kept in your workspace.

Who it is for

  • Game makers who want to turn a written idea into a playable prototype.
  • Developers who want to inspect and continue working on generated Web or Godot project files.
  • People customizing a game-production workbench, its prompts, media providers or project templates.

Documented uses

  • Turn a game prompt and reference files into a scoped production plan.
  • Generate and iterate on a standalone Web or Godot 4 game project.
  • Review, build and playtest a generated game, with bounded repair rounds when checks fail.
  • Inspect project files and assets in a local workspace and continue development with Codex or Git.

Requirements & limits

The repository describes a macOS developer preview and instructs users to run from source; it says no signed or notarized binary is published. Setup requires a ChatGPT/Codex account.

  • The agent chooses between Web and Godot 4; Godot use requires Godot 4 and exactly matching Web export templates.
  • An image-generation route is a setup requirement, through a configured provider or Codex ImageGen.
  • The automated playtest and host checks are part of the completion gate; failed checks can trigger up to three repair rounds.
  • Generated projects are local standalone workspaces, rather than output confined to a hosted preview.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Run Noobi.ai from source on macOS

Set up and launch the Noobi.ai desktop workbench from its repository.

Before you start

  • macOS
  • Node.js 22 LTS and npm
  • A ChatGPT/Codex account
  • An available image route: a configured image provider or Codex ImageGen

Steps

  1. Clone the Noobi.ai repository and change into its directory.

  2. Install dependencies with npm ci.

  3. Launch the app with npm run dev.

  4. On first launch, open Settings → Codex account and sign in.

  5. If Codex is not located automatically, set NOOBI_CODEX_BIN to its absolute binary path when launching.

Expected outcome

The desktop workbench launches from source and is connected to the signed-in Codex account.

Guide limitations

  • The current developer-preview target is macOS; the repository says no signed or notarized binary is published.
  • Godot 4 with exactly matching Web export templates is needed only if the agent selects Godot.
