Practical overview
When it fits
Use Ln Service when a Node.js project needs a package interface to LND’s gRPC methods and you can provide the node connection details and any required credentials.
Who it is for
- Node.js developers integrating applications with an LND node.
- Teams building Lightning node administration or integration tools in JavaScript.
Documented uses
- Create an LND connection from a Node.js application using gRPC.
- Read wallet and node information or perform documented Lightning and on-chain operations.
- Subscribe to LND events, with error handling for connection loss or node shutdown.
Requirements & limits
The repository lists an MIT license and documents package installation through npm.
- The package is a developer interface to LND, so an LND node is a prerequisite for node interactions.
- Authenticated methods require LND credentials; the README identifies the TLS certificate and admin macaroon.
- Supported LND versions listed are beta releases in the 0.20 and 0.21 series.
- Some APIs require LND build tags or permissions, and method documentation includes version-specific limits.
- The README points to a separate project for TypeScript-ready methods.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Connect a Node.js project to an authenticated LND node
Install Ln Service and create an authenticated gRPC connection using LND credentials.
Before you start
- A Node.js project and an LND node.
- The node’s tls.cert and admin.macaroon files.
- LND connection socket, such as the README example 127.0.0.1:10009.
Steps
Install the package with npm install ln-service.
Encode the TLS certificate and admin macaroon as base64, avoiding newline characters in the credential values.
Pass the encoded certificate and macaroon, plus the LND socket, to authenticatedLndGrpc to obtain an LND API object.
Call a documented method with that object; the README illustrates getWalletInfo using either callback or promise syntax.
Expected outcome
The Node.js application has an authenticated LND API object it can pass to package methods.
Guide limitations
- Supported LND versions listed in the README are v0.20.0-beta to v0.20.5-beta and v0.21.0-beta to v0.21.4-beta.
- Individual methods can require specific permissions, LND versions or build tags.
- The README documents unauthenticatedLndGrpc for unlocker methods; authenticated methods require credentials.
