Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you have a JSONL export of Solana accounts and need an offline, whole-snapshot review of rent-exempt status and balance distribution.
Who it is for
- Solana developers examining captured account snapshots
- Teams assessing rent-exemption status and the distribution of account balances
Documented uses
- Find accounts below a selected rent-exempt minimum.
- Summarize locked lamports, balances observed, underfunded deficits and amounts described as reclaimable on closure.
- Group account balances into data-length bands and rank owners by lamports held.
- Cross-check analysis rules using the independent TypeScript verifier.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed. The Python core is documented as requiring only the standard library; the TypeScript verifier has a development dependency.
- Input is a captured JSONL export; the described workflow is not a live account query.
- Rent-exempt calculations use a chosen lamports-per-byte rate.
- Executable program accounts are classified as excluded from the storage bands and locked total.
- Malformed lines are reported with line numbers rather than aborting the full snapshot.
- The TypeScript verifier is a separate implementation, not the Python CLI.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Run the Python audit on a sample snapshot
Generate a rent-exemption and balance report from the repository’s sample JSONL snapshot.
Before you start
- Python
- The Lamportlens repository, including its src directory and samples/snapshot.jsonl file
Steps
Set PYTHONPATH to src.
Run python -m lamportlens audit samples/snapshot.jsonl.
Expected outcome
A text report summarizes account statuses, lamport totals, data-size bands, owner balances, parse errors and findings.
Guide limitations
- This recipe analyzes the supplied sample snapshot; it does not retrieve live Solana account data.
- The repository also describes installing a console script with pip, but that is not required for this sample command.
