Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when implementing or operating Cosmos-chain arrangements in which one chain leases proof-of-stake security from another, or when developing and testing the provider-consumer workflow.
Who it is for
- Operators of Cosmos chains taking provider or consumer roles in shared security.
- Developers integrating IBC-based interchain security into Cosmos chains.
- Teams preparing provider-consumer testnet or integration-test environments.
Documented uses
- Install and start the provider or consumer binary.
- Develop Cosmos-chain integrations using interchain security over IBC.
- Prepare testnet or integration-test environments for provider and consumer chains.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies the project as open source. The README specifies Go 1.21 on macOS or Linux; jq and Docker are optional for the stated testnet and integration-test uses.
- The implementation is organized around provider and consumer binaries, reflecting the two chain roles.
- Go 1.21 is the documented prerequisite for installation on macOS or Linux.
- The repository links to protocol documentation, a technical specification, active-release information and a feature list.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and start the provider or consumer binary
Install the documented Interchain Security binaries and start either the provider or consumer process.
Before you start
- macOS or Linux
- Go 1.21
Steps
Install Go 1.21.
From the repository, run the command below to install
interchain-security-pdandinterchain-security-cd.make installRun
interchain-security-pdto start the provider, orinterchain-security-cdto start the consumer. If a command is not found, add
$(go env GOPATH)/binto PATH.
Expected outcome
The provider or consumer binary is installed and its process is started.
Guide limitations
- The README's testnet and integration-test setup is outside this installation guide.
- jq is listed as optional for testnet use, and Docker as optional for integration tests and testnets.
