Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Hs WEB3 when a Haskell application needs client-side Ethereum or ENS operations through a provider, rather than a standalone web interface.

Who it is for

  • Haskell developers building applications that need Ethereum account or balance queries.
  • Developers who need to resolve ENS names or submit Ethereum value-transfer transactions from Haskell.

Documented uses

  • Request the default Ethereum account and query its balance at the latest block.
  • Resolve ENS names to Ethereum addresses.
  • Submit value-transfer transactions through a configured provider.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The library is written in Haskell and its README documents installation with Stack.
  • The usage example defaults to a provider at http://localhost:8545 and uses a default account.
  • The repository is licensed under Apache 2.0.
  • Ethereum account, balance, ENS, and transaction operations are demonstrated; IPFS, Kusama, and Polkadot appear as repository topics.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Read Ethereum account and balance data

Use the documented example pattern to request the default Ethereum account and its balance.

Before you start

  • The web3 Haskell library.
  • An Ethereum provider configured at the example’s default URL, http://localhost:8545, with a default account available.

Steps

  1. Import Network.Ethereum, Network.Web3, and the Ethereum API modules shown in the repository example.

  2. Call runWeb3 and request the default account with Eth.accounts.

  3. Pass that account to Eth.getBalance at the Latest block.

Expected outcome

The example obtains the default account address and requests its balance at the latest block.

Guide limitations

  • The example assumes a provider at the stated local URL and a default account; it does not explain provider setup.
