Practical overview
When it fits
Use Goopt to explore or prototype a search interface whose results and text pages are generated on demand. Its documented use requires running the project yourself and supplying an OpenAI API key.
Who it is for
- Developers exploring synthetic text generation in a search-style interface.
- Prototypers interested in query-driven, generated pages rather than conventional search over existing websites.
Documented uses
- Search a term and view related generated results.
- Open generated text content associated with a result.
- Set up a local prototype of a procedural-content browsing experience.
Requirements & limits
The README says there is no public online version. Local use requires a developer setup and the user's own OpenAI API key.
- Goopt generates synthetic text rather than searching a documented index of existing websites.
- The repository documents a JavaScript project with a Yarn-based local setup and an OpenAI API key.
- The repository states that the project is licensed under MIT.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Goopt locally
Prepare the documented local app environment and start Goopt.
Before you start
- A developer environment with Git and Yarn.
- An OpenAI API key.
Steps
Clone https://github.com/jokenox/Goopt.git and change into the Goopt directory.
Create a .env.local file in the project root and add REACT_APP_OPENAI_API_KEY=YOUR_API_KEY_HERE, replacing the placeholder with your key.
Run yarn install to install the project and its dependencies.
Run yarn start; the README directs users to visit http://localhost:3000.
Expected outcome
The documented local setup starts the app at http://localhost:3000.
Guide limitations
- The project is experimental and has no public online version.
- The documented generated content is text produced with GPT-3.
