Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a code-level starting point and deployment guidance for a specific Vertex AI PaLM application pattern on Google Cloud; select the individual sample that matches your interface, API or workflow.
Who it is for
- Developers building Google Cloud applications that call Vertex AI PaLM models.
- Teams evaluating framework-specific starting points for chat interfaces or model-backed APIs.
- Developers adapting sample summarization integrations for files, Slack or Google Docs.
Documented uses
- Start a Vertex AI PaLM chat application using Flask, Gradio or Streamlit.
- Expose PaLM text, chat or code models to client applications through sample APIs.
- Build examples for summarizing uploaded files, Slack text or Google Docs content.
- Import a selected sample project into VS Code through Cloud Code.
Requirements & limits
The code repository is public and lists an Apache-2.0 license. The README instructs users to configure Cloud Shell and follow SETUP.md before running samples.
- Templates differ in framework, language and Google Cloud services; inspect the chosen sample's own documentation.
- The README requires environment setup before running a sample and points to project-specific deployment instructions.
- The repository includes application templates, while Cloud Code for VS Code is an optional import workflow.
- An optional Apigee guide addresses API access management as a separate concern from the application templates.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Import a sample into Cloud Code for VS Code
Import one repository application template into a configured VS Code and Cloud Code environment.
Before you start
- Visual Studio Code with the Cloud Code plugin set up.
- The repository URL: https://github.com/rominirani/genai-apptemplates-googlecloud.
Steps
Click Cloud Code in the VS Code status bar.
Choose New Application, then Custom Application.
When prompted for a Git repository URL, enter the repository URL.
Select a project from the listed applications and complete the remaining import steps.
Expected outcome
The selected project is imported into Visual Studio Code as a custom application.
Guide limitations
- The documented steps cover importing a project; they do not describe running or deploying it.
- The individual application documentation and SETUP.md provide further setup and deployment instructions.
