Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when building a .NET or ASP.NET Core application that needs programmatic access to Gemini and you want a C# package rather than calling the service through a separately implemented client.
Who it is for
- C# developers adding Gemini model requests to .NET applications.
- ASP.NET Core developers integrating Gemini into web applications.
- Teams using Microsoft.Extensions.AI or Semantic Kernel with the listed Microsoft integration package.
Documented uses
- Add generated text, streamed responses, or chat sessions to a .NET application.
- Create text embeddings or count tokens through documented model operations.
- Connect an application to Gemini using Google AI Studio or Vertex AI.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under Apache-2.0. The documented API setup uses Google AI Studio API-key or OAuth authentication, or Vertex AI credentials, depending on the chosen service.
- Choose the Google AI Studio or Vertex AI connection path and configure the corresponding credentials.
- Select among the repository's separate NuGet packages based on whether the project uses core .NET, ASP.NET Core, Google's API Client Library, or Microsoft.Extensions.AI and Semantic Kernel.
- The README documents API operations including generation, streaming, chat, embeddings, token counting, and grounded answers; it does not provide implementation details for every named integration.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Add the core package to a .NET project
Install the Mscc.GenerativeAI package in an existing .NET project.
Before you start
- A .NET project
- The dotnet command-line tool or NuGet Package Manager
Steps
From the .NET project folder, run
dotnet add package Mscc.GenerativeAI.Alternatively, use NuGet Package Manager to install Mscc.GenerativeAI, or add a PackageReference to the project file.
Expected outcome
The core SDK package is added to the project for use in accessing Gemini APIs.
Guide limitations
- These steps cover package installation only; they do not configure service authentication or make an API request.
