Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when developing Solidity contracts and you want a terminal-based test workflow with TypeScript-supported specs and local contract deployment helpers.
Who it is for
- Solidity developers building contract test suites.
- JavaScript or TypeScript developers who want a CLI-based workflow for testing Solidity contracts.
Documented uses
- Create and organize contract tests using Spec instances, nested specs, and lifecycle callbacks.
- Share typed test data through stage and per-test context.
- Deploy a contract to a local blockchain process from a test and receive its contract instance.
- Run exported test specs from the CLI, with file matching and TypeScript support.
Requirements & limits
The repository describes Specron as open source and identifies the MIT license. Its documented setup uses NPM packages and a command-line interface.
- The framework is centered on Solidity smart-contract tests and an Ethereum development environment.
- Its tests are built on Hayspec, with TypeScript support.
- Contract deployment helpers target a local blockchain process.
- The documented CLI workflow expects test files to export their spec instance.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up a Specron project
Initialize a project and install the dependencies needed to begin a Specron testing workflow.
Before you start
- Specron CLI, web3, and solc installed globally as described in the README.
- A terminal and a project directory.
Steps
Create and enter a project folder.
Run
specron init.Run the command below.
npm install
Expected outcome
A Specron-initialized project with its dependencies installed.
Guide limitations
- This setup sequence does not itself create or run a contract test.
Run exported specs with the Specron CLI
Run test files that export a Specron spec instance, optionally enabling TypeScript support.
Before you start
- A Specron project with test files exporting the spec instance as the default export.
- For TypeScript support, the
ts-nodeNPM package.
Steps
Export each test file’s spec instance as its default export.
For TypeScript files, invoke Specron with
--require ts-node/register.Run
specron test, adding--matchto customize the test-file search pattern.
Expected outcome
The CLI runs the exported specs matching the selected file pattern.
Guide limitations
- The documented TypeScript setup requires installing
ts-node. - The README notes that a Promise polyfill is needed when promises are not supported.
