Practical overview
When it fits
Use Fabric CA when a Hyperledger Fabric deployment needs certificate issuance and management; consult the Fabric Getting Started Guide for sample-network setup and the Fabric CA guides for operational and deployment details.
Who it is for
- Hyperledger Fabric network operators managing enrollment or TLS certificates.
- Developers contributing to Fabric CA.
Documented uses
- Issue enrollment certificates for Fabric participants.
- Manage TLS certificates for Fabric deployments.
- Use certificate-authority server and client components in Fabric network operations.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project as Apache-2.0 licensed.
- It is designed for Hyperledger Fabric certificate workflows, rather than general-purpose certificate management.
- The project provides both server and client command-line components.
- The developer guide lists Go 1.25 or later, Docker 17.03 or later and docker-compose 1.11 or later as prerequisites.
- The repository directs network users to separate Fabric and Fabric CA guides for installation, usage and deployment details.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Run Fabric CA unit tests
Run the repository's unit-test target as a Fabric CA contributor.
Before you start
- Go 1.25 or later
- Docker 17.03 or later
- docker-compose 1.11 or later
- The Fabric CA repository at $GOPATH/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric-ca
Steps
Change to $GOPATH/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric-ca.
Run the command below.
make unit-testsIf the tests fail with an open-file-descriptor issue, inspect the current limit with
ulimit -n; the guide notes that increasing it may be necessary and givesulimit -n 65536as an example.
Expected outcome
The Fabric CA unit-test target is run; the guide specifies that test coverage for each package must be at least 75%.
Guide limitations
- Unit tests may fail when the process has too few open file descriptors; the failure may present as an error such as "unable to open database file".
- Changing the file-descriptor limit with the example command is temporary; making it permanent depends on the host operating system.
- The guide does not guarantee that the tests will pass.
