Practical overview
When it fits
Use Eznlp when a Python/PyTorch codebase for one of its listed neural NLP tasks fits your development or research work, and you can supply the dataset and task-specific options required by the scripts.
Who it is for
- Python developers building neural NLP workflows.
- Researchers exploring classification, entity recognition or information-extraction methods.
- Teams seeking an Apache-2.0-licensed codebase they can install as a package or develop in editable mode.
Documented uses
- Develop text-classification applications.
- Build named-entity recognition, relation-extraction or attribute-extraction pipelines.
- Prototype machine-translation or image-captioning tasks.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository specifies the Apache-2.0 license. The README documents installation from PyPI and editable installation from the project.
- The package is Python-based and built on PyTorch.
- The README recommends Docker and also describes a Conda/Python 3.11 environment.
- Command-line examples are provided for classification and three extraction tasks; the README lists translation and image captioning without equivalent run commands in the documented section.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Eznlp in a Python environment
Create an environment and install Eznlp either as a package or in editable mode.
Before you start
- Docker with GPU support, or Conda and Python 3.11.
- The Eznlp repository for editable installation.
Steps
Choose the recommended Docker environment using the documented PyTorch 2.6.0 CUDA 12.6 cuDNN 9 development image, or create and activate a Conda environment with Python 3.11.
Install the package with the command below, or, from the project directory, use the command below for editable development.
pip install eznlppip install -e .
Expected outcome
Eznlp is installed in the selected environment as a package or editable project.
Guide limitations
- The README documents environment setup and installation; it does not guarantee compatibility with other configurations.
Run a documented text-classification or extraction script
Invoke one of the repository's documented command-line task scripts with a dataset argument.
Before you start
- Eznlp installed or available from its repository.
- A dataset identifier or value to supply to the script's
--datasetargument.
Steps
Choose a documented task: text classification, entity recognition, relation extraction or attribute extraction.
Run the matching script using the documented pattern, such as the command below.
python scripts/text_classification.py --dataset [options]
Expected outcome
The selected task script is invoked with a dataset argument and optional task options.
Guide limitations
- The README does not specify dataset values, option details, or expected output in the command examples.
