Practical overview
When it fits
Use Etherscamdb when a project needs a source of listed Ethereum scam records, or when contributing structured records to the database.
Who it is for
- Developers building lookups that use listed scam URLs or Ethereum addresses.
- Contributors maintaining scam records in the project’s YAML data file.
Documented uses
- Consult scam records through the documented API.
- Generate database content with the JavaScript command-line tool.
- Add or update records containing scam names, URLs, statuses, descriptions, categories or associated Ethereum addresses.
Requirements & limits
The project documents an API endpoint at https://etherscamdb.info/api/ and publishes its source under the MIT license.
- Records may include names, statuses, descriptions, URLs, categories and Ethereum addresses; several fields are optional.
- The JavaScript generator requires Node.js, Git and API keys configured in config.js.
- The README documents --update for manually updating content and --clean for cleaning old files and folders.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the local database generator
Prepare the JavaScript generator to build the database content.
Before you start
- Node.js
- Git
- Your own API keys
Steps
Clone the EtherScamDB repository and install its dependencies with npm install.
Rename config.exmaple.js to config.js and replace the placeholders with your own keys.
Run node run.js; when it prompts you to update config.js with correct values, do so.
Run node run.js again to generate the content.
Expected outcome
The command-line generator builds the database content; the README says the first generation or a clean generation can take a couple of minutes.
Guide limitations
- The README does not specify which API keys are required.
- The documented setup does not describe an application integration or deployment process.
