Practical overview
When it fits
Use it as a learning or starting point when examining a Kovan-based ERC-20 exchange proof of concept and its Web3, MetaMask, and Infura connections.
Who it is for
- Developers studying a React interface connected to Ethereum token and exchange contracts.
- Learners exploring ERC-20 buy-and-sell interactions on a test network.
Documented uses
- Review an example dapp that links a React frontend to Solidity token and exchange contracts.
- Compile and deploy the example contracts to Kovan using Truffle.
- Start the local React development server and inspect the documented buy-and-sell demo.
Requirements & limits
- The project is explicitly a proof of concept, with the README describing Kovan rather than another Ethereum network.
- Deployment prerequisites include an Infura Kovan API key, a Kovan Ether-holding account, and browser MetaMask.
- The listed stack includes Solidity, React, Node.js/NPM, Truffle, DotEnv, Truffle HD Wallet Provider, Web3, and Infura.
- Using another network requires changing its configuration, RPC endpoint, and contract addresses and redeploying the contracts.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare and deploy the demo to Kovan
Compile the contracts, deploy them to Kovan, and start the React development server.
Before you start
- Node.js and NPM
- Truffle
- An Infura API project key for the Kovan endpoint
- A Kovan Ether-holding account
- MetaMask enabled in the browser
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Install dependencies with npm install, then initialize and compile with truffle init and truffle compile.
Deploy the contracts with truffle migrate --network kovan.
Start the React development server with npm start.
Expected outcome
The documented workflow starts the React development server after the contracts are migrated to Kovan.
Guide limitations
- The guide follows the README's Kovan-specific configuration; deployment to another network requires configuration changes and contract redeployment.
- These are documentation-based steps, not execution-tested instructions.
