Practical overview
When it fits
Use Diffusers when you want to run or train diffusion models from Python and need configurable components rather than a hosted generation interface.
Who it is for
- Developers adding diffusion-based generation to software.
- Machine-learning practitioners running pretrained models or assembling custom diffusion systems.
- Teams training diffusion models for their own tasks.
Documented uses
- Load a pretrained diffusion model and generate an image from a text prompt.
- Choose and configure pipelines, schedulers and model components for inference.
- Build a custom diffusion system from modular components.
- Follow documented workflows for training diffusion models.
Requirements & limits
The project repository is public and lists an Apache-2.0 license. Installation instructions provide PyPI and Conda options.
- Diffusers is a developer library, so using it requires working in a Python and PyTorch environment.
- The documented text-to-image quickstart places the pipeline on CUDA; Apple Silicon users are directed to separate MPS guidance.
- The library exposes pipelines, schedulers and model components for customization rather than presenting only a single fixed generation workflow.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Diffusers in a Python environment
Set up the library using one of the installation methods named in the project documentation.
Before you start
- A Python environment; the project recommends a virtual environment.
- PyTorch for the PyTorch installation route.
Steps
Create or activate a virtual environment.
Choose the documented PyPI command the command below, or the community-maintained Conda command
conda install -c conda-forge diffusers.pip install --upgrade diffusers[torch]
Expected outcome
Diffusers is installed through the selected documented package route.
Guide limitations
- The Conda package is identified as community-maintained.
- The installation instructions refer readers to PyTorch's documentation for PyTorch installation details.
