Practical overview
When it fits
Use Dabarqus when you want a standalone RAG service with local operational interfaces as well as an API for application integration, rather than assembling the vector-search and service components separately.
Who it is for
- Developers integrating retrieval and language-model functions into existing applications.
- Teams deploying searchable knowledge stores for company or end-user environments.
Documented uses
- Ingest supported source material into separate semantic indexes.
- Retrieve relevant content from a memory bank using a natural-language prompt.
- Integrate model downloads, semantic-index prompts or LLM inference through the REST API.
- Use the dashboard to test memory banks, make changes and monitor performance.
Requirements & limits
The README documents installation paths for Linux, macOS and Windows. CPU operation is supported; CUDA requires an NVIDIA GPU with CUDA support and the CUDA build. Email, messaging and API data-source support is marked as requiring Dabarqus Professional Edition.
- Built-in vector search is intended to remove the need for a separate vector database deployment.
- Embedding-model choice is described as flexible.
- The CLI, REST API and dashboard serve different needs: command-line storage and retrieval, application integration, and administration.
- The README says email, messaging and API source support requires Professional Edition.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Dabarqus on Ubuntu and open its dashboard
Install the application as a service and reach its local admin dashboard.
Before you start
- A Dabarqus Linux ZIP download.
- For the CUDA build, an NVIDIA GPU with CUDA support, the CUDA version of Dabarqus and an NVIDIA driver. The CPU version requires no additional software.
Steps
If using the CUDA build on Ubuntu with an NVIDIA GPU, install the NVIDIA driver with
sudo ubuntu-drivers install.Unzip the downloaded archive, enter its folder and make the binaries executable with
chmod +x ./bin/*.Run
./bin/barq service install.Open
http://localhost:6568/adminin a browser.
Expected outcome
The service is installed and the local admin dashboard is available at the documented address.
Guide limitations
- CUDA use requires an NVIDIA GPU with CUDA support and the CUDA build; CPU operation is also documented.
- The instructions use a placeholder download version in the archive name.
Store a folder and retrieve from its memory bank with the CLI
Add a folder to a named memory bank and query that bank from the command line.
Before you start
- Dabarqus installed and its CLI available.
- A folder of material to store and a memory-bank name.
Steps
Store the folder with
barq store --input-path --memory-bank "".Retrieve from that bank with
barq retrieve --memory-bank "".To ask a specific question and limit the number of returned answers, use
barq retrieve --memory-bank documents --query "Tell me about the documents" --query-limit 3, substituting the bank name and query as needed.
Expected outcome
The CLI displays retrieved answers from the selected memory bank; the documented example limits the response to three answers.
Guide limitations
- The example uses a memory bank named
documents; use the name supplied when storing content.
Compare options for Vector search
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
