Practical overview
When it fits
Use Cybertron when an NLP feature in a Go project can be served by one of its supported Transformer models and tasks, and inference is the requirement.
Who it is for
- Go developers adding NLP capabilities to applications.
- Teams building text classification, entity extraction, question-answering, embedding, translation or summarization workflows in Go.
Documented uses
- Run supervised or zero-shot text classification for sentiment, topics or intent.
- Extract named entities or other token-level labels.
- Generate answers, embeddings, translations, paraphrases or summaries with supported models.
- Use Cybertron through library examples or configure its documented server mode.
Requirements & limits
- Go 1.21 is the documented prerequisite.
- The model must be compatible with the desired task; the README specifically notes this for zero-shot classification.
- Server mode accepts configuration through a .env file or flags and exposes model, task, model-directory, download and conversion settings.
- The project describes inference as its primary focus; fine-tuning is mentioned only as a possible future addition.
- The repository lists spaGO, GoPickle and GoTokenizers among its principal dependencies.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure Cybertron server mode for translation
Set the documented model and task configuration for an English-to-Italian translation server.
Before you start
- Go 1.21
- Cybertron source or library
- A model name and models directory configured for server mode
Steps
Create a .env file in the current directory.
Set CYBERTRON_MODEL to Helsinki-NLP/opus-mt-en-it.
Set CYBERTRON_MODELS_DIR to models and CYBERTRON_MODEL_TASK to text-generation.
Start the server with GOARCH=amd64 go run ./cmd/server -address 0.0.0.0:8080.
Expected outcome
Cybertron is configured to run in server mode for the documented English-to-Italian machine-translation example.
Guide limitations
- The example uses default settings beyond the listed environment variables and address.
- The selected model must support the intended inference task.
Run the documented zero-shot classification example
Use Cybertron's library example to classify text against supplied candidate labels.
Before you start
- Go 1.21
- Cybertron source
- A configured model compatible with zero-shot classification, or no specified model so the example can use its default
Steps
Open the Cybertron repository.
Run GOARCH=amd64 go run ./examples/zeroshotclassification followed by comma-separated candidate labels.
Expected outcome
The example runs the zero-shot classification workflow with the supplied candidate labels.
Guide limitations
- The README warns that an incompatible model specified in .env causes an error; it says to remove that model setting to use the default.
