Practical overview
When it fits
Use CHAIN33 when developing a Go-based blockchain system and its modular core or application extensions. Its documented single-node command also provides a starting point for development and testing.
Who it is for
- Go developers building a blockchain system from a modular codebase.
- Teams integrating blockchain components such as transaction execution, storage, consensus interfaces, networking or application extensions.
- Developers who want to compile and run a single-node environment for development and testing.
Documented uses
- Build a blockchain system from a Go framework rather than assembling every core subsystem independently.
- Work with documented components for chain synchronization and indexing, persistent storage, transaction pools and account handling.
- Connect networking and client functions using P2P, gRPC, JSON-RPC or Ethereum RPC components.
- Add application-level extensions through documented plugin and system interfaces.
Requirements & limits
The source repository is public and lists a BSD-3-Clause license. Building from source requires Go 1.21 or later.
- The framework is written in Go and documents Go 1.21 or later as a build prerequisite.
- The README requires the source checkout to use the path $GOPATH/src/github.com/33cn/chain33.
- The repository documents a single-node development-and-testing run command, not a production deployment procedure.
- Plugin developers are advised not to use the master branch and to use a release branch.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build and start a single-node development environment
Compile CHAIN33 from source and start the documented single-node environment for development and testing.
Before you start
- Go 1.21 or later
- Place the source at $GOPATH/src/github.com/33cn/chain33
- A chain33.toml configuration file
Steps
Clone https://github.com/33cn/chain33.git into $GOPATH/src/github.com/33cn/chain33.
Change to the repository directory and run make.
Run chain33 -f chain33.toml to start the single-node environment.
Expected outcome
A compiled CHAIN33 project and a running single-node environment intended for development and testing.
Guide limitations
- The documented run command assumes chain33 and chain33.toml are available in the working environment.
- The README requires plugin developers to use a release branch rather than master.
