Practical overview
When it fits
Use Broccoli when engineering work begins in Linear and should proceed through an automated implementation and GitHub pull-request review loop.
Who it is for
- Engineering teams using Linear for work tracking and GitHub for pull requests.
- Teams evaluating self-hosted or user-controlled infrastructure for coding-agent workflows.
- Developers seeking ticket-to-PR and AI-assisted code-review automation.
Documented uses
- Route an assigned Linear issue into an implementation workflow.
- Generate repository changes and open a reviewable pull request.
- Review pull-request diffs and provide actionable comments.
- Push fix commits when requested.
- Deploy the workflow in Google Cloud or documented Blaxel containers.
Requirements & limits
The project is publicly available as open-source software under the MIT license. The documented deployment requires Google Cloud prerequisites, GitHub and Linear configuration, and OpenAI and Anthropic API keys.
- The primary workflow depends on Linear issues, GitHub pull requests and a dedicated Linear bot user.
- Deployment is documented for user-controlled Google Cloud infrastructure, with Blaxel also named as an environment.
- The architecture includes Cloud Run, Secret Manager, webhook deduplication and durable job state in the Google Cloud path.
- Claude and Codex are the documented systems powering implementation and review tasks.
- Prompt templates can be forked, tuned and versioned with the codebase.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare Broccoli’s documented Google Cloud deployment inputs
Prepare the accounts, application credentials and secrets required before deploying Broccoli to a Google Cloud project.
Before you start
- A Google Cloud project with billing attached and gcloud authentication.
- A GitHub App with the documented repository permissions and webhook subscriptions.
- A dedicated Linear bot user with access to the relevant teams and a bot-user API key.
- Active OpenAI and Anthropic API keys with billing enabled.
Steps
Confirm the Google Cloud project, billing attachment and gcloud login.
Create or verify the GitHub App, record its numeric App ID and download its private key PEM file.
Create or designate a dedicated Linear bot user, add it to the relevant teams, and generate the API key while signed in as that bot user.
Create or verify the OpenAI and Anthropic API keys, then populate the four documented operator-managed secrets in Secret Manager.
After bootstrap provides the service URL, configure the Linear webhook at /webhooks/linear for Issue and Issue label events using the generated webhook secret.
Expected outcome
The documented credentials, operator-managed secrets and post-bootstrap Linear webhook are prepared for the deployment workflow.
Guide limitations
- This is a preparation guide, not a deployment or execution test.
- The supplied material does not verify that the credentials are valid or that deployment succeeds.
- The Linear webhook is configured only after bootstrap provides the service URL.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broccoli | Route an assigned Linear issue into an implementation workflow. | Cloud, Docker, Server | The project is publicly available as open-source software under the MIT license. The documented deployment requires Google Cloud prerequisites, GitHub and Linear configuration, and OpenAI and Anthropic API keys. |
| Llmcode | Inspect a project's directory structure with `/tree`. | CLI | The documented setup requires an API key and supports an API base URL and model setting. The project is open source under Apache-2.0. |
| Klaat Code | Open a project directory for terminal-based coding assistance. | CLI, Server | The README provides a global npm installation command and documents browser sign-in with a KlaatAI account. It also identifies the repository as open source under Apache 2.0. |
