Practical overview
When it fits
Use Brigade when the core requirement is coordinating multiple autonomous agents through a TypeScript-based runtime, particularly when local handling of supported provider credentials matters.
Who it is for
- Developers building personal multi-agent assistants.
- Teams exploring enterprise-oriented coordination among multiple AI workers.
- Builders who want agents to use supported provider credentials or existing CLI sign-ins kept on their own machine.
Documented uses
- Assemble specialized autonomous agents into a coordinated crew.
- Create a personal intelligence workflow using multiple AI workers.
- Build a local credential-handling layer around supported provider subscriptions or CLI logins.
- Evaluate an agent crew with a benchmark command, subject to confirming the referenced B³ feature in the full README.
Requirements & limits
Brigade is presented as a public GitHub repository with an MIT license. Its documented platform contexts include CLI, cloud, self-hosted and server environments.
- Whether the project’s crew-oriented orchestration model fits the workflow.
- Whether the supported authentication paths for Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude Code and Codex CLI cover the intended providers.
- Whether keeping API keys on the user’s own machine is an important implementation requirement.
- The referenced B³ benchmark feature should be confirmed in the full README before relying on it.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Brigade and start a local crew chat
Install Brigade, configure a provider and model through onboarding, then open its chat TUI.
Before you start
- macOS or Linux for the documented shell installer.
- A provider connection method: an API key, an eligible Claude/ChatGPT/Copilot subscription or Claude Code/Codex CLI login, or local Ollama.
Steps
Run the command below to install Brigade; the installer installs Node if needed.
curl -fsSL https://brigade.spinabot.com/install.sh | shRun
brigade onboardand follow the wizard to choose storage, connect a provider, select a default model, and configure web search.Run
brigade tuito chat. The TUI automatically starts the gateway if it is not already running; alternatively, runbrigade gateway runbefore opening the TUI.
Expected outcome
Brigade is installed and configured for a local chat session with the crew.
Guide limitations
- The documented shell installer targets macOS and Linux.
- The wizard's available provider, authentication, and search choices depend on the options it offers; no additional provider setup procedure is specified here.
- The documented installation and chat steps do not cover persistent gateway operation across reboots. See the repository README for the separate gateway-install stage.
Compare options for Agent orchestration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brigade | Assemble specialized autonomous agents into a coordinated crew. | CLI, Cloud, Self-hosted, Server | Brigade is presented as a public GitHub repository with an MIT license. The supplied evidence does not specify pricing or account requirements. Its documented platform contexts include CLI, cloud, self-hosted and server environments. |
| Massgen | Run multiple AI agents against the same user task. | CLI | The repository documents installation through pip or uv and requires Python 3.11 or later. Setup can configure API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI; credentials are needed for the selected model backends. |
| Langchain Multi Agents Boilerplate | Route incoming football questions to model and agent workflows according to task complexity. | Web | The repository is public and specifies an MIT license. Running the application requires OpenAI and Groq API keys and a Redis server. |
