Practical overview
When it fits
Use it for a compact view of selected Binance USDT prices while working on a Mac, rather than for broader market analysis or trading.
Who it is for
- Mac users who want selected crypto prices visible without opening a dedicated market dashboard.
- Developers who want to inspect or build a Swift menu-bar cryptocurrency monitor.
Documented uses
- Keep a selected coin’s USDT price visible in the macOS menu bar.
- Switch between supported assets or add up to five custom symbols.
- Refresh prices manually or choose a recurring update interval.
Requirements & limits
Requires macOS 13.1 or later and an internet connection to access Binance’s API. Building from source requires Xcode 16.2 or later.
- Prices come from Binance’s public ticker API and are displayed as USDT values.
- Automatic refresh can be set to 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds; Cmd+R triggers a manual refresh.
- The app supports up to five custom symbols, formatted as 2–10 uppercase letters or digits.
- The documented implementation uses Swift, SwiftUI, AppKit and Combine, with a GPL v3 license.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
