Practical overview

When it fits

Use Bec when you want a self-hosted workflow for spot-strategy backtesting and automation, and are prepared to manage a Linux Docker host and select one active exchange.

Who it is for

  • People who want to run automated spot strategies against one supported exchange at a time.
  • Strategy developers who want to backtest against exchange-specific data and review detailed reports.
  • Operators who want a self-hosted dashboard and scheduled trading or analysis jobs.

Documented uses

  • Configure and schedule automated strategies on 1-day, 4-hour or 1-hour timeframes.
  • Backtest a strategy for the selected exchange and review reports with charts, statistics and trade records.
  • Set position sizing, hard stops, ATR trailing stops and take-profit levels.
  • Review market-phase rankings and monitor balances, positions, strategies and jobs through the dashboard.
  • Receive Telegram notifications for trades, signals, execution summaries and operational errors.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The project describes itself as free and open source under the MIT license. The documented setup runs on a Linux host using Docker Engine and Docker Compose.

  • Only one exchange can be active app-wide; simultaneous trading across exchanges is not supported.
  • The application supports spot markets, not futures, margin or arbitrage.
  • API credentials are required for private balance checks or order execution, while Telegram and OpenAI credentials are needed only for those optional integrations.
  • Kraken and OKX live execution has explicit gating; the setup checklist includes backtesting approval and read-only private API validation before live operations.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Prepare Bec with Docker

Set up the documented Docker configuration and start the Bec services.

Before you start

  • A Linux host with Docker Engine and Docker Compose.
  • A strong password for the SQLite administration interface.
  • Exchange API credentials only for private balance checks or order execution; Telegram and OpenAI credentials are optional.

Steps

  1. Create /opt/bec and download docker-compose.yml and .env.example from the repository's main branch.

  2. Generate a password, enter it as SQLITE_WEB_PASSWORD in .env, and fill only the exchange or optional integration credentials you plan to use.

  3. Run sudo docker compose pull, followed by sudo docker compose up -d.

Expected outcome

The stack provides the dashboard at `http://localhost:8080`, SQLite web at `http://localhost:8081`, and a jobs runner.

Guide limitations

  • The documented setup is for Linux with Docker Engine and Docker Compose.
  • Bec operates with one app-wide active exchange at a time.
  • The setup instructions caution against enabling exchange API withdrawal permissions.
