Practical overview

When it fits

Use Bbgo when you want a Go-based framework for automated exchange trading and need built-in strategies, custom strategy development, backtesting or shared exchange abstractions. The documented setup requires Go SDK 1.25 and exchange API credentials for the chosen exchange; Binance testnet is documented for paper trading.

Who it is for

  • Crypto traders who want to run BBGO's built-in strategies.
  • Go developers building custom trading strategies or exchange-trading units.
  • Operators preparing a configured bot for server, Docker or Kubernetes deployment.

Documented uses

  • Run a built-in grid or other trading strategy against a configured exchange session.
  • Develop and backtest a custom strategy using BBGO's trading and backtesting units.
  • Build on shared exchange interfaces and streaming integrations instead of reimplementing common exchange access.
  • Deploy a bot with documented Docker, Kubernetes or Helm support.

Requirements & limits

  • The repository specifies the AGPL-3.0 license.
  • The README lists Go SDK 1.25 and Linux, macOS or Windows with WSL as requirements.
  • Using an exchange session requires API credentials from an account at the selected exchange.
  • The README names eight supported exchanges and documents Binance testnet for paper trading.
  • Installation options include binary setup scripts and source builds; deployment support includes Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Prepare a BBGO configuration for a grid strategy

Use a documented setup script to create configuration and dotenv files for a Binance or MAX grid strategy.

Before you start

  • Go SDK 1.25.
  • An account at the selected exchange and its API key and secret.
  • Linux, macOS or Windows with WSL, as listed in the requirements.

Steps

  1. Choose the documented setup script for grid trading and the selected exchange: setup-grid.sh binance or setup-grid.sh max.

  2. Run the script using the command shown in the README.

  3. Review the generated configuration and dotenv files, then provide the relevant exchange credentials as described in the configuration section.

Expected outcome

A grid-strategy configuration and dotenv file are prepared for BBGO; the README's next documented stage is running a strategy with `bbgo run`.

Guide limitations

  • The guide covers setup, not a verified live trading run.
  • Exchange API credentials are required for exchange sessions.
  • The README separately documents Binance testnet as the only supported testnet.
