Practical overview
When it fits
Use the hosted demo to explore its character-generation and rotation workflow; use the repository when you want to run the app locally or examine its image-generation scripts.
Who it is for
- People exploring prompt-based character and avatar concepts
- Game and story creators prototyping figurine-style characters
- Developers interested in a React and Vite character-generation demo
Documented uses
- Generate a new character from a natural-language description.
- Browse eight supplied base characters.
- Rotate a character using mouse controls or keyboard arrows.
- Compare four-direction views and, where complete assets exist, eight-direction views.
- Configure Gemini or OpenRouter for chat and image models.
Requirements & limits
The project documents a hosted GitHub Pages demo. Local development requires Node.js 18 or higher and a Gemini or OpenRouter API key. The repository is MIT-licensed.
- The app supports Gemini and OpenRouter and requires users to provide a provider key for AI features.
- The README says the browser app stores keys in local storage and calls the provider directly.
- Four-direction rotations are generated by documented Node scripts; eight-view JPEGs are added manually.
- Base character images are included, so generating them is not required just to run the app.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
