Practical overview
When it fits
Use Anymd when agent workflows need locally processed Markdown or associated text from a range of document and media formats, or when an MCP-compatible client needs conversion and search tools.
Who it is for
- Developers integrating document and web-content ingestion into AI-agent workflows.
- MCP-client users who want local conversion and search over supported content.
- People preparing scanned images, audio or video for downstream text processing.
Documented uses
- Convert PDFs, office documents, EPUB, HTML and web pages into Markdown.
- Process images with OCR to produce text for agent workflows.
- Extract audio transcripts and video subtitles or metadata.
- Search across supported sources, including directories, through the documented CLI or MCP tool.
Requirements & limits
The documented setup uses npx and requires Node 18 or later; npm installs a native binary for the platform. The repository lists an MIT license.
- The MCP server runs locally, and the README says content is not uploaded.
- OCR uses installed local document-VLM models or Tesseract; OCR setup requires explicit opt-in.
- Audio transcription uses ffmpeg and bundled Qwen3-ASR; ASR model downloads require explicit opt-in.
- The README documents npm/npx, Python and Docker routes in addition to manual MCP client configuration.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
