Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you have a long-form YouTube source and want a browser-based workflow for finding and shaping short-form highlights, or when you need a documented starter for building that workflow into a SaaS.
Who it is for
- Creators repurposing long YouTube videos for TikTok, Reels, or Shorts.
- Developers building a video-clipping service with authentication, credits, and billing.
Documented uses
- Extract candidate highlight moments from a YouTube video.
- Choose the number and aspect ratio of clips for short-form publishing.
- Keep a history of generated clips and their processing status.
- Start a SaaS clipping application with billing and user authentication components.
Requirements & limits
The repository documents a live browser interface that requires Google sign-in to explore. A self-hosted instance requires service credentials and configuration.
- The documented source workflow is based on YouTube links.
- Clip count and aspect ratio are configurable; documented aspect-ratio examples include 9:16 and 1:1.
- The app relies on MuAPI for YouTube downloads and AI clipping, with asynchronous webhook status updates.
- A full setup includes PostgreSQL through Prisma, Google sign-in, and Stripe billing.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up AICLIPS Studio locally
Prepare the documented local development environment and start the development server.
Before you start
- Node.js v18 or higher
- npm
- A PostgreSQL database and the environment values required by the application
Steps
Clone the repository and change into the project directory.
Install dependencies with npm install.
Copy .env.example to .env and add the required service keys and configuration.
Run npx prisma generate and npx prisma db push.
Run npm run dev.
Expected outcome
The README describes the development server as available at http://localhost:3000.
Guide limitations
- The setup depends on configured database, Google authentication, Stripe, and MuAPI credentials for the corresponding services.
