Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a coding assistant needs project-specific commands and guidance for the agent lifecycle, especially ADK development, evaluation and Google Cloud deployment.
Who it is for
- Developers using a coding assistant to create or maintain AI agent projects.
- Teams seeking CLI-assisted evaluation and Google Cloud deployment workflows for agents.
Documented uses
- Scaffold a new agent project or enhance an existing one.
- Run an agent and evaluate its traces against metrics and datasets.
- Compare evaluation results, analyze failure patterns and tune prompts.
- Prepare deployment, infrastructure and CI/CD workflows for Google Cloud.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and lists an Apache-2.0 license.
- It augments a coding assistant; it is not itself a coding assistant or agent framework.
- Setup calls for Python 3.11+, uv and Node.js.
- The documented stack includes ADK, Gemini and Google Cloud services, with deployment skills covering Agent Runtime, Cloud Run and GKE.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Agents CLI for a coding assistant
Install the CLI and skills, then open a coding assistant ready to work on an agent project.
Before you start
- Python 3.11 or later
- uv
- Node.js
- A coding assistant such as Antigravity CLI, Claude Code or Codex
Steps
Run
uvx google-agents-cli setupto install the CLI and skills.Launch your coding assistant.
Ask the assistant to build an agent using agents-cli.
Expected outcome
The coding assistant has the Agents CLI skills and commands available for agent-building work.
Guide limitations
- The instructions describe setup and starting a build request, not a verified deployment or successful build.
- The skills-only installation route is also documented with
npx skills add google/agents-cli.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agents CLI | Scaffold a new agent project or enhance an existing one. | CLI | The repository is public and lists an Apache-2.0 license. |
| Dexto | Define agents in YAML with a model, tools, storage and permissions. | CLI |
