Practical overview
When it fits
Use Agenticow when an application needs multiple isolated working memories over a shared vector-memory base, particularly for parallel agent tasks, personalization, or reversible ingests.
Who it is for
- Developers building multi-agent applications that need isolated memory edits.
- Teams that want task-level vector-memory checkpoints or branches for personalization and experiments.
Documented uses
- Create per-agent or per-user memory branches from a shared vector-memory base.
- Query base memory together with branch-specific additions and overrides.
- Checkpoint a branch, roll back unwanted changes, or promote a selected memory delta.
Requirements & limits
The documented installation is `npm install agenticow`. The README specifies Node.js 18 or later and ESM; the library depends on `@ruvector/rvf-node`.
- The default exact read-through query path is documented as available across platforms.
- Native ANN querying across a branch is a distinct option; its native COW binary is documented for linux-x64-gnu, with exact read-through fallback elsewhere.
- The library expects the integrating application to provide vector embeddings and determine its verification or promotion policy.
- The repository displays an MIT license.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Create a branch and query shared vector memory
Set up a base memory, add a branch-specific vector, and query the branch across its parent memory and edits.
Before you start
- Node.js 18 or later and ESM.
- Install the
agenticowpackage with npm. - A vector embedding and query vector with the configured dimension.
Steps
Install the package with the command below.
npm install agenticowImport
openfromagenticowand open or create a base file with a dimension, for exampleopen('memory.rvf', { dimension: 1536 }).Ingest vectors into the base, then create a branch with
base.branch('agent-a')and ingest branch-specific vectors into it.Query the branch with
agent.query(queryVector, 10)to retrieve parent memory and branch edits; child entries take precedence for ID collisions, and deletes are honored.
Expected outcome
A branch provides read-through vector queries over the base and its own edits without copying the full base index.
Guide limitations
- The exact read-through path is the default and is documented as working on every platform.
- The native ANN option is limited to linux-x64-gnu; other platforms use the exact read-through fallback.
