A2A Net

A2A Net is a C#/.NET implementation of the Agent2Agent protocol and framework. It provides shared models and protocol definitions, client-side discovery and transport packages, and server components for agent runtimes, task orchestration, state management and event streaming.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a .NET application needs protocol-level agent discovery, structured communication or task orchestration, with a choice of client and server transports.

Who it is for

  • .NET developers building clients that discover and connect to A2A-compatible agents.
  • Teams implementing server-side agent services with task execution and event streaming.
  • Developers connecting agents across frameworks through a shared communication protocol.

Documented uses

  • Discover a remote agent and retrieve its metadata.
  • Build a client that communicates with an agent over HTTP, gRPC or JSON-RPC.
  • Host an A2A-compatible agent with a configured card and runtime.
  • Coordinate agent tasks and exchange structured messages, artifacts and task events.
  • Select in-memory or Redis-backed task state and in-memory or Quartz-based scheduling.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The GitHub repository is public and identifies Apache-2.0 as its license.

  • The core package contains shared abstractions and models and is described as dependency-free.
  • Client and server functionality is divided into separate packages, including transport-specific packages.
  • The repository documents HTTP, gRPC and JSON-RPC transport implementations for both clients and servers.
  • Redis is available as a task-store implementation; Quartz is available for task scheduling and queuing.
  • The hosted-agent example configures a card, runtime, store, queue and transports, then adds the server to the application pipeline.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install A2A Net packages

Add the documented core, client, transport and server packages to a .NET project.

Before you start

  • A .NET project with the dotnet command-line tool.

Steps

  1. Run the documented dotnet add package commands for the A2A.Core and client packages you need.

  2. Add the corresponding client transport package: HTTP, gRPC or JSON-RPC.

  3. For server development, add A2A.Server and the server transport package or packages you plan to use.

  4. Add persistence or scheduling packages if the application needs the documented Redis, Quartz or in-memory implementations.

Expected outcome

The selected A2A Net packages are added to the project for client or server implementation.

Guide limitations

  • Package installation alone does not configure or run an agent.
COMPARE OPTIONS

Compare options for Agent orchestration

These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
