Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a code-first, devnet example of the Solana NFT-minting workflow and can work with the documented CLI, Anchor and wallet setup.
Who it is for
- Developers learning Solana program development with Rust and Anchor.
- Builders seeking an example workflow for Metaplex NFT minting on devnet.
Documented uses
- Study an Anchor-based NFT-minting program.
- Configure a Solana devnet wallet and project settings.
- Build and deploy the example, then run its Anchor test.
- Check the resulting NFT in Phantom.
Requirements & limits
- The README's workflow uses Solana CLI, Anchor, web3.js, spl-token, Mocha and Phantom Wallet.
- Local wallet and program settings need to be configured in Anchor.toml.
- The README estimates about 1.5 SOL for deployment and recommends repeated airdrops to cover deployment and testing.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build, deploy and test the NFT program on devnet
Follow the README's devnet workflow to deploy the example and run its Anchor test.
Before you start
- Solana CLI tools and Anchor
- Solana/web3.js, spl-token and Mocha
- A Solana keypair and Phantom Wallet
- Yarn and sufficient devnet SOL; the README estimates about 1.5 SOL for deployment and recommends several airdrops for deployment and testing
Steps
Set the Solana CLI cluster to devnet and generate a keypair.
Set the wallet path and devnet cluster in Anchor.toml; the README also describes transferring the key to Phantom.
Run
yarn installandanchor build.Run
anchor deploy, then update the program ID in Anchor.toml under[programs.devnet].Run
anchor testand check Phantom's Collectibles for the NFT.
Expected outcome
The README describes a successful test as producing one NFT in the account, visible in Phantom's Collectibles.
Guide limitations
- The wallet path and program ID must be set for the local setup.
- The workflow is for devnet and requires SOL for deployment and testing.
- The repository describes a test walkthrough, not a hosted minting service.
