Openreshot

OpenReshot is a native iOS photo editor that uses a downloadable SHARP Core ML model to reconstruct ordinary photos as spatial scenes. Users move the viewpoint, adjust camera-like settings, render a new image, and save it to the system photo library.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use OpenReshot when you want to explore a different viewpoint or camera-like treatment from an existing photo, then render and save a selected result.

Who it is for

  • iPhone and iPad users who want to reframe a regular photo after capture.
  • iOS developers interested in a Swift photo-reconstruction app using Core ML and Metal.

Documented uses

  • Change the viewpoint and composition of an existing photo.
  • Generate and save a reconstructed image from the selected angle.
  • Adjust focus and aperture-style depth of field after taking a photo.
  • Revisit a cached reconstruction without repeating model inference.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The project documentation specifies iOS 18 or later. The model is downloaded in the app on first use rather than included in the build.

  • Model download is required before first use, and the model is compiled locally.
  • The project says model compilation and inference can be memory-intensive; lower-memory devices may run more slowly or heat up more.
  • Building from source requires macOS, Xcode 16 or later, XcodeGen, and an iOS 18-or-later device.
  • Changing to a different Core ML reconstruction model requires adapting and testing its package structure and preprocessing.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build the iOS app from source

Prepare the Xcode project and select a connected iPhone or iPad as the run target.

Before you start

  • macOS
  • Xcode 16 or later
  • XcodeGen
  • An iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or later

Steps

  1. Clone the OpenReshot repository and change into its ios directory.

  2. Run xcodegen generate, then open OpenReshot.xcodeproj.

  3. In Xcode, select the OpenReshot target and configure a signing Team.

  4. Choose a physical iPhone or iPad as the run destination.

Expected outcome

The Xcode project is generated and configured for a device build.

Guide limitations

  • The build does not include the SHARP model; the app documentation says it is downloaded during first use.
  • These steps cover project preparation and target selection, not a verified build or app execution.
