Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a mining setup can route miners through a Linux host, or run the software beside a Linux miner, and the relevant developer-fee traffic uses a detectable plain mining protocol.

Who it is for

  • Mining-farm operators who want to route miners through a shared Linux soft router.
  • Miners who can run the software on the same Linux machine as their mining software.
  • Operators of GPU, FPGA or ASIC mining setups, subject to the documented network and protocol requirements.

Documented uses

  • Configure a separate wallet address to receive detected developer-fee shares.
  • Route miners through a Linux soft router on their internal network.
  • Run the recovery software alongside mining software on a Linux miner in standalone mode.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The software itself must run on Linux; Windows miners are supported only through soft-router mode, not standalone mode.
  • Soft-router mode requires the Nofee Ng host and miners to share an internal network, with miners’ default gateway pointed to that host.
  • The README requires plain mining protocols and warns that SSL Stratum can prevent detection.
  • The recovery wallet is configured in nofee.txt; recovered shares may appear on a different pool from the main mining pool.
  • The README reports Debian 9 and CentOS 8 as tested examples and says other Linux distributions should work.

Source-based practical guide

Configure Nofee Ng as a Linux soft router

Route miners through a Linux host running Nofee Ng and direct detected developer-fee shares to a configured wallet.

Before you start

  • A Linux machine on the same internal network as the miners, with iptables and iproute installed.
  • Root access or sudo, and a gateway path from the soft router to the existing physical router.
  • The Nofee Ng bundle matching the cryptocurrency implementation and the destination wallet address.

Steps

  1. Extract the matching bundle to /opt/nofee-ng and set the recovery address in nofee.txt.

  2. Follow the README’s host instructions for firewalld and SELinux if those components are in use.

  3. Link nofee.service into /etc/systemd/system/, then enable and start the nofee service with systemd.

  4. Check systemctl status nofee for the listed running and wallet messages, then change miners’ default gateway to the Nofee Ng soft router.

  5. Run miners as usual and check the relevant pool after the README’s stated five-to-six-hour interval.

Expected outcome

Miners route through the soft router, with detected developer-fee shares directed to the configured wallet; pool display depends on the implementation and mining software.

Guide limitations

  • Nofee Ng must run on Linux and be on the same internal network as the miners.
  • The README cautions against encrypted mining protocols such as SSL Stratum; encrypted developer-fee traffic can prevent detection.
  • A detected fee does not always become a valid pool share, and the credited pool may differ from the main mining pool.
Source-based practical guide

Set up standalone mode on a Linux miner

Run Nofee Ng on the same Linux machine as the mining software without setting up a separate soft router.

Before you start

  • A Linux machine running the mining software, with the Nofee Ng bundle installed.
  • Root access or sudo for the service configuration.

Steps

  1. Deploy Nofee Ng on the same Linux machine as the miner and follow the README’s firewalld and SELinux instructions where applicable.

  2. Change ExecStart= in nofee.service to /opt/nofee-ng/nofee_eth -rs as specified for standalone mode.

  3. Link the service file into /etc/systemd/system/, then enable and start nofee with systemd.

Expected outcome

Nofee Ng is configured to run in standalone mode alongside the Linux mining software.

Guide limitations

  • The README says standalone mode does not work for Windows miners.
  • The README’s protocol cautions still apply: encrypted developer-fee traffic can prevent detection.
