Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a code-level starting point for beach-scene outpainting or to examine a Keras notebook and data-preparation workflow.
Who it is for
- Developers studying or adapting image-outpainting models.
- Users exploring a notebook-based workflow for training on prepared beach imagery.
Documented uses
- Prepare beach-image data as NumPy batches.
- Build the model in a Jupyter notebook or use a downloaded trained checkpoint.
- Explore outpainting that extends image boundaries, including recursive canvas extension.
Requirements & limits
The project is available as a public GitHub repository. Its README documents local setup with curl and Python dependencies; it does not describe a hosted generation interface.
- The documented training data and reported results are centered on beach images.
- The README offers a choice between building from outpaint.ipynb and using a downloaded checkpoint.
- The implementation modifies the cited paper’s approach with identity loss, cropping, removal of training patches, and additional convolution layers.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare beach-image data for the notebook
Download the project’s beach data and convert it into NumPy batches for the model workflow.
Before you start
- The project repository
- curl installed
- Python 3 and packages installed from requirements.txt
Steps
Install curl with the documented apt-get command.
Install the Python dependencies with the documented pip3 command.
Run sh prepare_data.sh from the repository.
Expected outcome
The script downloads beach data and saves prepared NumPy batches in data/prepared_data/.
Guide limitations
- This prepares the data; the README describes model building separately through outpaint.ipynb or a downloaded checkpoint.
Choose a model-building path
Start the documented model workflow using either the notebook or the supplied trained checkpoint.
Before you start
- The project repository
- Prepared data for the training path, or the downloaded trained model
Steps
For a from-scratch path, open and run outpaint.ipynb.
Alternatively, download the trained model and move it into the checkpoint/ directory.
Expected outcome
The repository provides a notebook-based build path or a checkpoint-based path for the model workflow.
Guide limitations
- The README does not provide further execution details for generating an output image.
