Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want to generate wallet credentials in an offline terminal session and can manage the resulting printed or saved output.
Who it is for
- People comfortable using a terminal and Node.js who want to generate Bitcoin or Ethereum wallet credentials offline.
- Bitcoin users who want SegWit support or a text-file output option.
Documented uses
- Generate a Bitcoin wallet, including a SegWit wallet.
- Generate an Ethereum wallet.
- Print wallet output for paper storage or redirect Bitcoin output to a text file.
- Use the password-prompted BIP38 wallet-generation script.
Requirements & limits
- Setup is documented through Git, npm and Node.js commands.
- Bitcoin and Ethereum use separate scripts.
- SegWit is documented for Bitcoin; the README does not make that claim for Ethereum.
- The README describes password encryption with BIP38 and a password-prompted script.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
